1. What this page covers

BUILD doesn't use many cookies. This page explains what we and our website host store in your browser, and why.

2. What we store ourselves

When you visit buildthedamnthing.com, we store one piece of information: a random, anonymous token that lets us tell repeat visits apart from new ones. We keep it in a first-party cookie called build_mx and in your browser's local storage. It expires after 180 days and contains no name, email, or other personal information.

If you take the Builder quiz or register for the Sprint, that token is linked to your answers or registration so the experience continues if you leave and come back. If you use the same email on more than one device, we may connect those visits so we can see which link or campaign first brought you to BUILD. If you're logged in, your browser also stores what's needed to keep you signed in.

When you arrive from an ad or a link with tracking parameters (for example utm_source, gclid, or fbclid), we record which of those parameters brought you here and the domain of the page that referred you, not the full referring page address. This tells us which campaigns and content are working. We do not collect your IP address or use device fingerprinting.

3. Our website host's built-in traffic analytics

Our website hosting platform runs its own basic traffic analytics for every site it hosts, separate from anything we built. It works differently from the cookie-based analytics most sites use: it doesn't set a cookie, but it does read the full address of the page you're on, including anything in the URL at that moment, to record that a visit happened. We don't control what it collects or have access to change how it works. Our only control is an on/off switch for the whole site.

4. Cookies from other services

When you pay for something, Stripe may set its own cookies as part of processing your payment. Stripe's use of cookies is covered by Stripe's own privacy policy, not by us.

5. How to control this

Your browser settings let you block or delete local storage and cookies at any time. If you do, some parts of the site, like staying logged in or resuming a quiz you started, won't work as intended.

We don't currently run any advertising trackers (like the Meta Pixel or Google Ads remarketing), so there's nothing to opt out of on that front today. If that changes, we'll update this page and add a real opt-out control.
