BUILD

A note from Kathryn

Is BUILD right for you?

Hi, I'm Kathryn. I built BUILD to take you from the idea in your head to a real product you can sell. I made it for underestimated Builders on a short runway, not the unicorn-or-bust crowd. Let me help you figure out if you're one of us.

The honest cut

I'd rather tell you the truth up front.

BUILD is right for some people, and not for others. Here's how I see it.

I built this for you if

  • You want a real business, a product people pay enough for that it pays you. Not a side hustle that's really just a hobby.
  • You're short on time and need to get to a product fast.
  • You'd rather build the thing than spend another month on courses, coaching, and audience-building that leave you with nothing to sell.
  • You want real founder expertise and real community, not a Slack channel with a moderator.
  • You're building a web-based product or a small self-made physical one: SaaS, a Substack, online services, consulting, a handmade-goods venture, the digital piece of a future shop.

It's not for you if

  • You're looking for a course about selling courses.
  • You want someone to build the business for you. You do the work, I'm here to support you. BUILD gives you the tools and the guidance to build your company yourself.
  • You need to raise money before you can launch, or you're building hardware that needs a factory.
  • You're chasing fundraising as the goal and treating the product as a footnote. That's not me, and it's not us.
The five Builders

Which Builder are you?

I built BUILD around five kinds of Builders. Most people are a mix, with one dominant register. See which one sounds like you.

The Forced Founder

The market chose entrepreneurship for you. Laid off, restructured out, or aged out, and short on runway.

What do I sell, to whom, and how fast?

The Co-Builder

You're one of the first few at someone else's early-stage company, founder-adjacent without the founder upside.

How do I think like an owner without being one?

The Solopreneur

You sell your expertise directly, consultant, fractional exec, freelancer. You're the product.

What am I worth, and who actually pays it?

The Intrapreneur

You do founder-level work for employee pay inside an established company.

How do I operate like a founder inside someone else's company?

The Freedom Founder

You're starting by choice, with time, savings, or stability.

Now that I have the freedom, what's actually worth building?

See yourself in one of these, or a mix? That's the point. I built BUILD for all five.

The membership

Here's what I'm giving you.

Why I built this

Ideas are great. Products are better.

I've invested in over 100 companies and built several of my own from idea to exit. I wrote a whole book about it, Build the Damn Thing. And the one thing I know for sure is this: you can't market what you don't have.

So I built the platform I wish I'd had when I started. No fluff, no funnel, no course about courses. Just the tools, the real talk, and a room full of people building right next to you.

Kathryn.

A few honest answers

The questions you're actually asking.

"I don't have a fully formed idea yet."

Good. That's exactly what I built ideabuild for. You don't need a finished idea, you need to start.

"Is this just another course?"

No. I don't do lessons about lessons. You leave with a product, not a certificate.

"Will I be on my own?"

No. Real talk, but you've got people here, me included, who are going to help you work through it.
